Widely recognized as one of the most iconic watches, the Patek Philippe Nautilus faced initial criticism due to its large 42mm case. To appeal to a broader audience, Patek introduced the smaller ladies' ref. 4700 in 1980, featuring a 28mm case. This allowed women to embrace the Nautilus’ then-controversial design. Its success paved the way for the mid-sized men's ref. 3800 in 1981, helping the Nautilus gain traction and earning its place in watchmaking history. Rare mark 1 sigma dial with black date disk.
